Current Certified SAFe® 6 Release Train Engineers can upgrade by completing either the Empowering Release Train Engineers with AI SAFe Skill, available in the SAFe Skills Library. This is a short, self-paced e-learning that takes about 45 minutes to complete. Once complete, your certification will automatically be updated to Certified AI-Empowered SAFe Release Train Engineer, and you will be issued a new digital badge.
If you currently hold an active SAFe® 6 RTE certification, there is no additional cost to upgrade. The SAFe Skill modules are included with your membership. However, if your RTE6 certification has expired, you will need to renew it first in order to regain access to the SAFe Skill library and complete the upgrade.
When you complete the upgrade, you’ll receive the new AI-Empowered RTE certification, but your original SAFe® 6 RTE credential will also remain in your records. You’ll hold both certifications going forward, but you will only need to renew the AI-Empowered RTE certification going forward.
There is no set deadline to upgrade at this time. However, if you already hold a valid RTE6 and have completed either the Empowering Release Train Engineers with AI SAFe Skill, your certification will be automatically updated to AI-Empowered RTE during the first week of December 2025.
Active RTEs can either complete the upgrade to SAFe 6.0 via the upgrade learning path and then complete their SAFe Skill, or enroll in a new RTE course. Either option will deliver the new achievement.
